Awesome old science illustrations

This came across Twitter the other day from Brain Pickings, and in looking through these old chemistry textbook illustrations, I am impressed by the amount of information they display.  Compared to modern graphics, these illustrations pack a lot of information into a small package.  These are cleaner than a modern infographic and feel warmer to me as well, but their “building blocks” approach really drives home the concept of conservation of mass and the atom as the fundamental building block of matter.  I love the combustion illustration!  Have a look and see what you think:
